Welcome to Fairfield, California.
Fairfield is a city located in Northern California, USA, near San Francisco and Sacramento. Fairfield, founded in 1859 by Captain Robert H. Waterman, and has a population of 101,935 as 2002 Census estimate. It shares a border with its sister city, Suisun City. Fairfield is the county seat of Solano County. Fairfield is just 10 miles north of Vallejo, 38 miles north of Oakland, 14 miles southeast of the Napa Valley, 45 miles southwest of Sacramento and 45 miles northeast of San Francisco. Small enough not to have lost its Old West appeal and neighborhood feel, yet large enough to attract and support such major industries as military, agriculture and manufacturing, the Fairfield City area offers the perfect blend of old and new, quaint and modern, peaceful and exciting. The City of Fairfield is the home of Jelly Belly, Anheuser-Busch, Travis Air Force Base, Thompson Chocolates, Guittard Chocolates, in fact, Fairfield is becoming the candy capital of the world! This city is home to Providian Financial, West America Bank, numerous manufacturers and many other great businesses, including Westfield Shopping Town Mall. This city also has great schools. The residents enjoy a very high quality of life with plenty of clean air, open space, good housing and a growing economic base. There is a strong sense of community involvement and a lot of diversity. These are just some of the benefits of living or working in Fairfield. Fairfields has comfortable temperatures year round, with no extreme highs or lows and few rainy days, make for an ideally mild climate. Situated at the midpoint between San Francisco and Sacramento, Fairfield City has the valued advantage of strategic location without the daily hassles of metropolitan working and living. Efficient transportation systems narrow the already short distance to the Capital and the Golden Gate.
The Travis Air Force Base has its home in Fairfield. It serves as the Military Air Command Center for the 22nd Air Force as well as a medical center. The base and the servicemen and women are a major cornerstone to the thriving economy Fairfield enjoys. Fairfield is home to some very nice restaurants catering to every kind of palate i maginable. In all, there are more than 70 restaurants in the community providing a rich and diverse variety of cuisines. Although Fairfield has some interesting boutique and fine retail shops, it is also home to The Westfield Shopping Mall. The Westfield shopping mall has more than 80 stores and restaurants.
There is an abundance of family fun things to do in Fairfield. This beautiful countryside is dotted with 26 parks and playgrounds. For golf lovers, Fairfield offers one private golf course and two public courses to challenge resident's skills. As with much of Northern California the area is rich with grape vineyards and wineries to discover and sample. You can also devote a leisurely weekend afternoon touring the famous Jelly Belly Factory or the Anheuser-Busch Fairfield Brewery. Another option is the Scandia Family Fun Center with two beautifully landscaped 18-hole miniature golf courses, little Indy raceway, bumper boat pond, nine battings cages, a full video game arcade, and a snack bar.
Fairfield has a lot of pride in its school district. The Fairfield-Suisun Unified oversees 27 schools and serves the educational needs of nearly 23,000 students. There is a very low student-to-teacher ratio in the classrooms, providing students with an excellent learning environment. There are six colleges in the area including the University of California-Berkeley and the University of California-Davis both of which are less than 30 miles away.
